SUSTAIN | DAY 12 OF 31

Welcome to "31 Days of Words to Love By." This largely unedited free-write is linking up with the annual Write 31 Days Challenge. // indicates the start and stop of five minutes. //

Today's quote: He will sustain you.

//One of the dear leaders in my life often says "what you build, you have to maintain. What God builds, God maintains." That has always acted like a check or a marker in my life. When my peace-ometer is out, I check and ask myself "Why am I out of peace?" Is this something that God is building, or is this something I am doing in my own strength?

You see, when God breathes something to life, or He asks you to do something, then you know there is all the resource, power, energy, finance, time that you need. Because when He speaks, He creates.

By His words were the worlds made. And in Him we live and move and have our being. God spoke the world into motion and He has sustained it ever since. God spoke my life and your life into motion and He has sustained me and you ever since.

In my toughest moments, when I have felt out of my depth and really like I can't cope, I ask myself the question - taking account of all I am carrying, did God ask me to carry all of this? More often the answer is "no". Because His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Today's quote is a scripture and in context it says this:

Isaiah 46:4 (NIV)

Even to your old age and gray hairsI am he, I am he who will sustain you.I have made you and I will carry you;I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

And the Message paraphrase says it like this

I’ve been carrying you on my backfrom the day you were born,And I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old.I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray.I’ve done it and will keep on doing it,carrying you on my back, saving you.//

What He makes, He carries, He sustains and He rescues. You can rest assured today, that your life is not an accident, it was crafted and breathed to life by a divine Father who loves you and has incredible hope and goodness stored up for your future. A Father who cares for the condition of your soul. A Father who knows every individual hair on your head. And because He made you, He is committed to building you and sustaining you. He's that good!

It is sometimes difficult to comprehend the complexities of this life and all that comes with it - new life, love, loss, what it means to get older, jobs, building careers, our place in this world even though we are no longer of it... There is a lot! And yet again there is such huge provison made in the word of God that gives us license and authority to live a victorious life.

Build your life in partnership with the Holy Spirit and see how amazingly He continues to do what Jesus did for us, so long ago. He picks up the bill for the cost of our living. And He gives and gives and gives. Even unto death, His own death on a cross.

What are the various things that you are carrying? What roles, responsibilities, relationships are you holding? And who is maintaining them for you?

Because what you build, you have to maintain. But what God builds, God maintains.
